Not like we need a reason to celebrate, but while standing in line at the wal-mart, my badass roommate and I came up with a quick list.
1. We made it to Friday!
2. We had no bosses at work today and didn't burn the place down!
3. We had no bosses today! Seriously, what a crazy job.
4. We got our first paychecks (that can't be deposited till tomorrow, but still. It's in our hands!)
Do we need more than four reasons? Nope. But we came up with enough anyway to constitute a $3.33 pizza, a couple 6-packs of beer, sour cream & onion chips, and milk duds. Also pictured, toilet paper. Because, we're humans.
We also picked up a couple movies at the redbox to enjoy. All in all, we conquered Thursday.
My office is severely lacking in drink option. You could say it's nice of them to offer any drinks in the first place, but then I'd respond by asking if there are any drink options worth having if diet coke is not present? My friends, family, and an assortment of waitresses could pay witness to the fact that when I go out to eat, my first question is "do you offer Pepsi or coke products here?" If Pepsi reigns triumph, I let out a sigh (made of equal parts disappointment and anger), and ask for water. If coke is the available product (as always should be), I ask for a diet, treating it as a trophy I have won by simply choosing an establishment with a fine taste for fizzy beverages.
Anyway, the fridge here is full of coke. Sugar loaded cokes. Where's the diet?!
No where. Not offered. So, yesterday I gave reg coke a try. Never again.
After the coke, my day pretty much ran through it's normal routine. Intern outing to the park, where we found a lovely beach and then took a windy path that took us far, far away from the car. My roommate was a badass and climbed a tree over a ledge for the perfect picture. I took selfies while intern #3 talked to his mama on the phone. I found the perfect tree with the perfect lighting for a somewhat depressing picture. And we had a face off with a raccoon. I'm convinced this fella had more raccoon thugs just waiting to attack us from the bushes as back up, but we escaped the scene before the troops could act.
Great Wednesday. Missed my middle school ladies, though. Xoxo
I watched another movie today. Wait, sorry, I meant wept through. I wept through a movie today. I wept through a movie sitting next to a very nice stranger who I could tell was also trying to hold back tears. He was more successful than I. Unfortunately, this nice man-stranger got to experience my ugly cry as the roomie and I experienced "the fault in our stars". Erin and I found ourselves the cheapest theater in the area and purchased our tickets to see this movie, fully expecting a bonding experience of sorts, I mean roommates that cry together become lifelong bestfriends, right? And although it worked (we're on a new level in our friendship for sure), I feel like I experienced that same bonding with mr. beard next to me. I mean, who sits RIGHT NEXT TO someone at the theater? Bizarre-o.
Anyway, FANTASTIC movie!! I read the book than watched the movie and the director/actors/literallyeverythingelse gave full justice to the authors original intent. I'm in awe. Not sad, just moving. The tears were a more instinctual reaction to another human being crying than my own sorrow. Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty sad movie since death is involved. But it's also brilliant and revolutionary and inspiring and just beautiful. Read the book. Then see it.
And another tip - watch this before you watch Divergent. If it's too late for you, just prepare yourself for the siblings from Divergent to fall in love. Weird how casting worked out like that.
I made a mistake today. I wasn't home with my daddy.
I've now missed two fathers days in a row. It makes me feel like a huge failure as a kid, only made worse by the fact that when I gave him a call, he was spending the day devoted to his sacrifices as a parent at work. Nooooooooooooooooo!
So, my day didn't go great. Dragged myself out of bed to walk across the parking lot to church. Went to church, but the whole time was thinking about my church back home and how this was the first Sunday my church family got to experience a service in the new building. The moment I've been looking forward to for 5 years - missed. Huge bummer. But I will be there to celebrate later this month!!
Then, I went back to my room and watched the rest of season three of House. Once I finished the season, I pulled out the disks for season four, only to find that I was missing disk one. Fail.
After a two hour nap (because there was absolutely nothing else to do), I ventured out to find the nearest Anytime Fitness. I got in a fight with the tanning bed, resulting in no tanning time for me, and then practically crawled 4 miles. Definitely needed more than a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch to fuel myself.
After passing the fifth 7-Eleven on my drive home, I fell into the temptation and stopped for a (super big) gulp of diet coke. I'm weak. But the diet coke was delicious.
But still. I miss my dad. And the day wasn't the same without him. Love you, daddy!
1. Obsessed over all the fresh produce at the market. Think of all I could cook! (If I knew how to cook, that is)
2. Walked probably close to 15 miles total between walking the market to walking the streets chasing one bad yelp review after another in search of a seafood dinner.
3. Classic, over-used photo of the pike place market sign. I'm a tourist. Shoot me.
4. Flowers flowers flowers! I could spend hours just looking at these babies. My home will one day be packed to the brim with brightly colored blooms!
5. Smoothie from one of the hole-in-the-wall shops on pike. So delicious. Was gone in 3 minutes.
6. Fellow intern jumping up stairs. Because walking is too mainstream.
7. Food!! After hitting the pavement for hours looking for an affordable restaurant with more options than just chowder, we ended at the bar in Ivar's. Fantastic choice!
8. The view from the top of the huge Ferris wheel on the pier! I'm not one that's afraid of heights, but this was a bit higher than I expected. Still absolutely beautiful and fun with a lovely couple from California.
Here's to more adventures!
I'm here. In Tacoma. Interning at a company I've been somewhat obsessed with for the past year and a half.
Woah.
For as long as I can remember I've said I'd never live in the Seattle area, nor would I ever take a non-paying internship. I go to Target far too much, making a paycheck necessary. ALAS, sometimes when you hand the reigns over to God, he drives you right over the cliff you thought led to the cannibal tribe who would skin and boil you and use all your cell data. None of that here - just a great church, great workplace, great people, and a lot of candles.
It may be too soon to say, but I actually really like it over here.

Myself and the other two Claro interns are living in a retirement home here in Tacoma practically attached to a church. So, our daily routine consists of meeting a unique collection of prime-timers and stealing wifi from the church next door. We're working out of the Claro offices, which are located on the 5th floor of a furniture warehouse. If you subtract the trendy furniture from Ikea, party tea lights, and the smell of a hundred different candles burning at once, it'd be the prime location for a horror movie. Actually, just subtract sunshine and it fits the bill as is. Super trendy, though, and they have recliners. I do my work from a recliner. I don't think this could get better.
Except... it does!! I'm the production and operations intern, which finally allows me to apply all my university knowledge I paid big bucks for! I'm also stretching my creativity leg a bit, which has been interesting. My first presentation is Monday. We'll see if the rest of the gang is ready to hop on my crazy train.
Love seattle. Love rain. Love candles. Gonna be a fast two months.
